'Mari Magno', written at the end of Clough's life, is a 19th century working of the Canterbury Tales, where travellers on a trans-Atlantic crossing exchange stories about love. The unfinished dramatic poem 'Dipsychus' is a Faustian dialogue which Clough describes as 'the conflict between the tender conscience and the world' and revised throughout his life.
