Oil is the world's most important fuel and the most exploited and used source of energy for mankind. No other product is so important to the functioning of the world economy. But as easily accessible oil becomes scarcer, and the exploration of reservoirs in increasingly inhospitable environments: an example is the deep waters of the Arctic, a place where exploration is considered difficult and costly. There is a need to explore mature oil fields, i.e., the fields that humanity is already familiar with, in order to reduce production costs and meet future energy demands. In recent years, renewables have shown great potential, especially solar energy, but fossil fuels, especially oil, continue to be important in the energy scenario, and until renewables achieve greater prominence, oil will probably be part of our lives for many years, so the importance of obtaining a greater knowledge of techniques for the recovery of oil from mature fields.
