The only way you can learn anything well is to reason through it. There is no shortcut to that. Therefore, if teachers ask their students to reason about the content of the lessons, they have to be willing to engage in thinking themselves, and they must have a crystal clear concept of what good thinking looks like and how to teach for it. However, the problem is that critical thinking is not well known to most educators (Paul, 1995, 1997). Therefore, this study aimed to promote critical thinking in Mali. A workshop was organized to that effect. Five private high school EFL teachers participated in the project. The design of the study was to address a questionnaire to the participating teachers and to observe them in their classrooms with regard to active learning and critical thinking instructions before and after the workshop. By the end of the project, the participants were expected to be more aware of the need to teach for critical thinking and to encourage learners to take a more active role in the classroom.
