Hunt sends two deputies to kill a bear that refuses to die and keeps coming after being shot numerous times. Two of Hunt's men track a murderer and end up on the Apache Trail and where they encounter the notorious Mangas Coloradas, the Chiricahua Apache Chief. Hunt is kept busy as he tries to keep an eye on the construction progress at Hidden Valley, the logging, and be available should his men need help. Hunt and Beth travel to Hudson to examine the ranch that Hunt purchased and make a surprising discovery. On the return trip to Denver after visiting the ranch in Hudson, Hunt and Beth decide to stop and visit Julia and Jason Barnes to see how they are doing, and Hunt ends up having to once again step in to help them out of potential trouble. Hunt sends two deputies to the town of Grandy that has been taken over by a crazed man that thinks he is the son of God and intends to resurrect 12 of the world's most notorious murderers to become his disciples of death, travel to Washington D.C. and kill President Pierce. A man that he claims is sitting on his throne. Hunt ends this saga with the discovery of a man that he thinks would become a great U.S. Deputy Marshal, and sends him to Kansas City to meet Jed Fox.
