The purpose of this book is to engage the learner of the American language with more than just their eyes and ears. The Hands to Spell-Read-Write series brings hands-on-learning to the American language by utilizing the American Sign Language (ASL) Manual Alphabet to learn the alphabet and ASL signs for numbers. Hands-on-learning has been proven countless times to be the superior way of learning anything and research has shown that utilizing the ASL Manual Alphabet and the use of ASL signs for numbers to learn the alphabet and numbers has been very affective by providing the learner with a visual and kinesthetic/tactile representation of the letter/number.
For each letter/number, the activities are:
1. Learn and practice the letter/number using the ASL Manual Alphabet. Note: Saying the letter's/number's name while signing the letter/number helps the learner to remember better.
2. "Write" the letter/number in Braille.
3. Trace the letter/number on the different font types: Bubble, dotted manuscript, and dotted cursive.
4. Color the picture.
5. Practice writing the letter/number in any style you want.
6. Repeat 1-6 for each letter/number.
The goal of this simple workbook is to teach the alphabet and numbers on a level that encourages confidence.
