Corporate philanthropy is an attempt by for-profitorganizations to improve social conditions, and overtime, this activity is ubiquitous with a firmsfinancial performance and long-term goals. Afor-profit organizations involvement in seeminglynon-profit activities is, therefore, of significantinterest for research. This study examines thedecision-making process pertaining to the selectionof nonprofit organizations for support. By applyingcase study methodology and through in-depthinterviews of executives from corporations based inthe North Texas region, the researcher studies themotivations for and the influences on givingdecisions. While examining current philanthropictrends, the study is also prescriptive in terms ofhow nonprofits can better compete for limited fundingopportunities. The study provides significant lessonsfor nonprofit managers and boards, intermediaryorganizations, research scholars and practitionersinterested in philanthropic decision making andnonprofits.
