This book pursues an interdisciplinary approach to the study of family firms as organizations that are deeply connected to the territories in which they are located. Featuring an in-depth analysis of original research, the book employs both theoretical and empirical approaches to explore family firms and their relationships with local territories. It demonstrates that family firms have unique relationships with their territories, and these relationships often influence family firms’ decision-making.This book addresses two research questions, namely, how the relationships between family firms and their local territories originate and develop, and how they influence these firms’ economic performance and corporate social responsibility initiatives. Uniquely, it seeks to develop an integrated framework that brings together family firms and local territories, while also presenting new empirical evidence of relevance to scholars, managers and policymakers alike. In addition, the book responds to family business scholars’ need for a greater understanding of what anchors entrepreneurial families to their home territories and of these territories’ conditioning effects on family firms’ decision-making.
