Emerging from questioning some dogmas of academic mathematics and valuing and recognizing knowledge developed in various sociocultural contexts in the field of mathematics education, ethnomathematics has been consolidating itself as a field of research. Despite its contributions to the school context, the implementation of educational proposals for basic education is still scarce. Given this situation, based on the author's master's research (GONÇALVES, 2013), this book aims to assist education professionals who are interested in learning about some of the ideas discussed by ethnomathematics and its relationship with mathematics education. Presenting theoretical and practical aspects on the subject in question, this publication hopes to contribute to the promotion of an education that values cultural diversity without depriving students of access to academic knowledge.
