All health and social care professionals, as well as many others, use supervision as part of professional training and quality control. Supervision is also integral to current initiatives within mental health care such as the UK's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services. In these contexts, supervision is used to support the delivery of evidence-based care to those experiencing psychological distress. However, supervision itself has an evidence base and this is not widely utilized.
