In this contemporary novel, set in the world of rodeo, Robert Hatting takes the reader right into the stands and bucking chutes, providing a realistic behind the scenes look at the art of rodeo riding, as well as the politics of the sport. As usual, Mr. Hatting drives the story along with his portrayals of a cast of colorful and somewhat eccentric characters who, in spite of their quirks, adhere to a code of honor and conduct. Every character, even the minor ones, are so expertly drawn that they jump off the page in full living, breathing life. Mr. Hatting's skill at this brings the reader into the story to the point where you can smell the saddle leather and horse sweat (along with other substances common to ranching and rodeo). The fast moving narrative examines matters such as morality, ethics, and honor, while still providing the reader a rollicking good time. Anything missing here? Oh, I don't know...maybe a sequel?
