Centavo is a dog born on the streets in a small community in Baja on the Sea of Cortez. The story is about the struggles of dogs in Mexico without families and how they survive together. When she is around two years old Centavo is picked up along the beach, where she lives, by an American couple, adopted and brought back to the US to live in a mountain city called Flagstaff in Arizona. The story is written for anyone twelve years or older who would like to read about the adventures a dog has to make from living in the streets of Mexico, to a home and small town in the US. The story is completely written from Centavo's, perspective and it touches upon the progress by many Americans living in Mexico who are taking on the difficult job of eliminating the population of animals living without owners in Mexico either through adoption or the free spay and neuter programs available in communities throughout the country. The adventure is base upon the true story of a couple who adopted Centavo and renamed her Penny. She is living with them still in Flagstaff today.
