Following the success of his prior two poetry books (Points of Interest, 2012; Uncommon Pursuits, 2013) William Ogden Haynes presents a new volume of poetry. Carvings presents fifty poems about ordinary circumstances as seen from the author's perspective. Each of the poems in this collection is a "carving" of sorts made of a familiar situation, only the poetry carving is done with words instead of some other medium. Just as carvings or artifacts in a museum are meant to elicit a memory, emotion or recognition in the person viewing them, these poems will hopefully produce a similar resonance in readers. As in his previous poetry books, most of these works have already appeared, or soon will, in literary magazines. So, the major goal in putting this book together is to consolidate poetry scattered throughout electronic and print journals into one volume.
