A Child Of The Holocaust: A Non-Survivor's Story Of Survival. The happiness of a Jewish family is destroyed when the Nazis invade Holland on May 10, 1940. At first life goes on as usual, despite the Nazis' occupation of Holland. But then the round ups of Jews begin and this once happy family must hide or die. A gentile friend gives them shelter. But eventually they are turned in and are sent in cattle cars to a death camp in Poland. All, except the oldest son, Peter, are gassed; however, the novel is narrated by the spirit of the youngest son, Hans. The Nazis may have gassed this young boy, but they could not destroy his spirit. He relates how his brother survives the death camps, the DP camp and makes his way to Palestine, where Peter helps found the State of Israel. A Child Of The Holocaust is history, tragedy and triumph. It is a must read for all who hope for peace in the Middle East.
