Shortly after Mike and Geraldine Baker take over a hotel in a remote and beautiful Welsh valley, a mysterious object lands in a field nearby. Mike thinks it is a meteorite, but it has unusual features. Later, Mike dreams it is in fact an egg, but, as Geraldine points out, whoever heard of a stone egg? Gradually, it turns out that the object is very unusual indeed, and, equally gradually, for the people living in the valley and the tourists visiting the ruin, heaven turns slowly into hell....
