James J Hilton was born in 1975 in Newport, Isle of Wight. Youngest son of Marion, a Care Home Manager, and David, a naval officer, James was educated privately until age seventeen when he joined the University of Wales, Swansea as an undergraduate to study a History and Spanish degree. An early childhood of adventure and freedom was brutally ended at the age of ten when he was enrolled into a multi-cultural boarding school. It was during this time he learned to fend for himself under strict conditions of discipline and competitiveness and began to develop his love for writing as a form of escapism. A year and a half spent at Salamanca University in Spain during 1995/6 and subsequent graduation with 2:1 honours in 1997 led James to follow his father's footsteps and pursue a career as a Royal Naval Officer. This was the beginning of a turbulent period in his life when after only six weeks he decided to give up his commission and pursue other interests. He moved to London in January 1998 and it was then that he was inspired to write 'Sterling of Mardavia', a story that he had conceived during his early childhood. In September 2000 his daughter Maya was born and in May 2010 he met the love of his life, Azeeza. James J Hilton, his wife Azeeza and daughter Maya now reside in Bournemouth in the United Kingdom.
