James J Hilton was born in 1975 in Newport, Isle of Wight. Youngest son of Marion, a Care Home Manager, and David, a naval officer, James was educated privately until age seventeen when he joined the University of Wales, Swansea as an undergraduate to study a History and Spanish degree.
