The Vietnam War is not noted for having produced love stories. There was nothing the least bit romantic about it, nor anything that could easily have been converted into romance after the fact. No "Gone with the Wind" melodrama with its noble Lost Cause. The Vietnam War's 'lost cause' truly deserved to be lost, but unlike the equally undeserving 'lost cause' of the Southern Slaveocracy it did not have a legion of propagandists to twist it into something it noble and romantic. Still romance bloomed among the wreckage, romance that had a decidedly sharp edge to it, but romance nonetheless, romance that has survived to this day. This is a story of two closely intertwined Vietnam War romances, the principal of which is the story of Don Decker and Viendara Soulinthavong.
