Heterocyclic compounds have been well researched and still continue to provide solutions to innumerable problems faced by mankind. One of such problems is increasing resistance of microbes against existing antibiotics. The present work reports the synthesis and evaluation of some 2, 5-disubstituted 1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles and their pharmacological evaluation for antimicrobial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. A fair number of compounds were found to have good anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema test, while all the compounds showed significant antibacterial activity. The contents of this book must make an excellent read for those interested in heterocyclic research.
