Ce livre rassemble les trente contributions presentees au colloque sur - le systeme monetaire international: soutenabilite et projets de reforme -, organise a Bruxelles les 3 et 4 octobre 2011 a la memoire de Robert Triffin (1911-1993). Sa vie et son uvre sont evoquees par des historiens et des temoins. Viennent ensuite des analyses par des economistes universitaires et des responsables d institutions monetaires portant sur les vices de fonctionnement du systeme actuel, sur sa responsabilite dans la crise, tant mondiale qu europeenne, et sur des reformes possibles. Elles montrent notamment que le fameux - dilemme de Triffin -, qu il avait mis en lumiere en 1960 dans L or et la crise du dollar, n est toujours pas resolu et est a la base de nombreux problemes actuels.
This book contains the thirty contributions presented at a conference on -the international monetary system: sustainability and reform proposals-, organized in Brussels on 3-4 October 2011 to the memory of Robert Triffin (1911-1993). His life and works are recalled by historians and witnesses. There follow analyses by academic economists and responsibles of monetary institutions concerning the malfunctioning of the current system, the role it has played in the crisis, both global and European, and possible reforms. They show in particular that the well-known -Triffin dilemma-, which he brought to light in 1960 in his Gold and the Dollar Crisis, has remained unsolved and lies at the root of many contemporary problems."

O autorze

Jean-Claude Koeune a étudié l'économie à l'Université catholique de Louvain et à Columbia University, et l'a enseignée notamment à Columbia et aux universités du Minnesota, de Tunis, de Liège et de Louvain. Il a passé dix ans (1978-88) au service du gouvernement belge, notamment comme chef de cabinet du ministre de l'Économie et fut de 1988 à 2000 économiste en chef auprès de la Banque Bruxelles Lambert (aujourd'hui ING Belgique).
Alexandre Lamfalussy studied economics at Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) and Oxford University (D.Phil. 1957), and taught at Yale University and UCL. He was first with Banque de Bruxelles, becoming its CEO in 1972. In 1976 he joined BIS, where he served as General Manager from 1985 to 1993. A member of the Delors Committee in 1988-89, he became in 1994 the first President of the European Monetary Institute. In 2000-01 he chaired the «Committee of Wise Men» on the Regulation of European Financial Markets.
