The system enables the user to check, and if needed, change the current status of the Appliance at the same time or at a specified time in the future via a user interface device.The design of this system is based on an embedded controller which is connected to a PC-based home Web server via RS232 serial port. The software of the system is based on the combination of Java 1.6, J2me and PHP 5.0. The system is scalable and allows additional appliances to be added to it with no major change to its core.
