This book was inspired heavily by Henderson's time in Chicago, specifically Englewood on the city's Southside. His walks down the many famous streets of Chicago provide a rich commentary on not only the state of Black Chicago, but America as a whole. Although this book was mainly written in Chicago during 2009-2010, works from Henderson's time in St. Louis, Atlanta and Peoria are also included.
