Written by a trained historian 'the man from MENSA' - 1 of the 600. Volume 2. Politics 1990-1995 is not only a history of MENSA but also a history of the author's contribution towards this international high-IQ society after joining in the late eighties, which is a period when MENSA underwent considerable change. This volume has as a focus the internal politics of British and Irish MENSA, and the development of British MENSA's politics special interest group. In doing so it examines the contribution made by the author, which extends to the 'real world' politics of Northern Ireland during 'the Troubles' era and subsequent peace process, and also to broader British politics. There is little known about this elite high-IQ society MENSA that boasts a membership tested to have an IQ among the highest two per cent of the population. MENSA was originally conceived of as a third pillar intended to complement the Royal Society and the British Academy. When it was founded in Oxford during 1946 its original goal was to gather six hundred of the most intelligent people in Britain as scientifically measured through an IQ test who the government and its agencies could contact for advice on matters of government. It originally had two purposes: first, to conduct research in psychology and social science and, secondly, to provide contact between intelligent people everywhere in the world. The intention was for MENSA to conduct three strands of research: i.To test intelligence tests, and identify correlations with intelligence ii.Mensans as the subjects of research iii.The Mensan as an instrument of research, i.e. where they choose areas of research and write reports on them This book reveals some of the research conducted on or by Mensans over the intervening seventy years, but with a particular focus on politics. This book is written by an insider who as a member of MENSA contributed extensively to this high-IQ society over a span of almost thirty years. Dr. Mulholland was elected in April 2016 to the Irish MENSA committee for a two year term. Previously he was a regional organiser for the MENSA Foundation for Gifted Children during the early nineties. Bernard has been the editor and secretary for Poliphony, which is the journal of British MENSA's politics special interest group, between 1995-96 and then again 2000-05. He also wrote reports for Spacesig's newsletter Spacesignl and also wrote a bi-monthly media column between 1997-2003. Bernard founded MENSA's science interest group and was its secretary and editor of its journal Wissenschaft from 2003-08.
