O autorze

Mia Couto hat bereits 20 Bücher veröffentlicht, darunter Romane, Kurzgeschichten und Lyrik. In über zwanzig Sprachen übersetzt ist er der bekannteste und renommierteste Schriftsteller Mosambiks. Sein erster Roman Das schlafwandelnde Land wurde von einer internationalen Jury zu den 12 besten im 20. Jahrhundert veröffentlichten Büchern afrikanischer Autoren gezählt. Mia Couto erhielt nationale wie internationale Preise und war in der Auswahl für den Caine International Prize (2001), den Independent Foreign Fiction Prize (2005) und den International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award (2006). Mia Couto lebt in in Maputo (Mosambik) und arbeitet als Umweltbiologe.

Lélia Wanick Salgado studierte Architektur und Stadtplanung in Paris. Ihr Interesse für die Fotografie entdeckte sie 1970. Seit den 1980er-Jahren konzipiert und gestaltet sie die Mehrzahl der Fotobände von Sebastião Salgado und organisiert alle Ausstellungen seines Werkes.

Sebastião Salgado begann 1973 seine Karriere als Fotograf in Paris und arbeitete in der Folge für die Fotoagenturen Sygma, Gamma und Magnum Photos. Im Jahr 1994 gründete er gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Lélia Wanick Salgado die Agentur Amazonas Images (heute ihr Studio), die sein Werk exklusiv vertritt. Salgados fotografische Projekte wurden in zahlreichen Ausstellungen und Büchern gezeigt, darunter Sahel.
