Set for soprano solo, SATB choir, and piano (or organ) or orchestra, this setting is built upon a haunting melody of folk-like simplicity, underpinned throughout by a lyrical and independent accompaniment.
The melody here has an expressive simplicity that is very attractive and not so far removed in style from the folksong to which these words are normally sung . . .This lovely setting of the familiar early Irish text is always very accessible.
