Smith Glass Company manufactured handmade American pressed glass in various colors and styles beginning in 1907. The success of these industries led to the Glass Festival, held annually in September. Today, in the center of town is Diamond Memorial Square, the quintessential symbol of Mount Pleasant, where the World War I doughboy was erected in 1924.
