The mathematical part covers the implementation andcomparison of different numerical schemes to solvethe equations of radiation hydrodynamics. One and thesame two-dimensional model of solar granulation issimulated with different high resolution numericalmethods (essentially non-oscillatory and convexnon-oscillatory) and non-grey short characteristicradiative transfer. Furthermore the influence ofartificial diffusivities is studied. The second partcovers two astrophysical applications. Atwo-dimensional non-grey high resolution simulationof a downflowing plume in the sun and a greythree-dimensional simulation of the quiet sun arepresented.
