Die Studie rekonstruiert die Genese der Tempelweiherzählung aus 1Kön 8,1-9,9, 3Kgtm 8,1-9,9 und 2Chr 5-7. Sie möchte dieser Erzählung historisch auf die Spur kommen.

Dafür müssen in Teil I Lücken in der Grundlagenforschung geschlossen werden. Für das Königebuch steht aktuell keine moderne textkritische Edition der Septuaginta zur Verfügung. Der Old Greek-Text und seine Hebräische Vorlage müssen erst rekonstruiert werden. Das ist notwendig, weil der älteste Text der Tempelweiherzählung stellenweise nur in der Septuaginta erhalten geblieben ist.
