Diese Arbeit ist eine soziolinguistische Analyse des Hochdeutschen auf der Basis einer empirischen Untersuchung. Vor der Befragung war eine Definition des Hochdeutschen entwickelt worden, die empirisch umsetzbar sein mute. Mit einem Fragebogen wurden 2218 Hochdeutschsprechende in sechs Klein- und sechs Grostadten Deutschlands befragt.
