C. Cornelius Gallus, der erste romische Prafekt Agyptens, weihte 29 v. Chr. nach der Niederschlagung von Aufstanden und der Sicherung der agyptischen Grenze auf der Nilinsel Philae eine dreisprachige Stele. Das vorliegende Buch ist das Ergebnis eines Projekts von Agyptologen und Historikern zu diesem Denkmal. Der hieroglyphische, lateinische und griechische Text ist auf der Basis einer neuen Uberprufung des Originals ubersetzt und kommentiert. Damit liegt eine wichtige Quelle zum Beginn der romischen Herrschaft uber Agypten erstmals in einer zuverlassigen Gesamtausgabe vor.

Das dritte Bruno Snell-Symposion stellt die interdisziplinaren Beitrage zur Aktualisierung von Antike unter den Leitbegriff der Inszenierung. Uber den Bereich der Buhne hinaus steht dieser fur die Prasentation von Antike in jeweils unterschiedlichen historischen und kulturellen Kontexten und Darstellungsmedien.
