Nikolaus Dietrich legt ein allgemeines Modell zum Verstandnis der Raumlichkeit griechischer Bilder vor, das er anhand einer Analyse von Landschaftselementen in der attischen Vasenmalerei des 6. und 5. Jh. v.Chr. entwickelt. Unser heutiges Konzept von Landschaftsraum erweist sich dabei als ganzlich ungeeignet fur das Verstandnis dieser Motive: Der Raum der griechischen Bilder stellt keine Vorstufe, sondern eine grundsatzliche Alternative zu dem uns seit der Renaissance gelaufigen Bildraum dar.
