Dr. Coghlan has used his experience on the Sports Council, as well as his many years in the field, to record the development of sport in Britain and the direct relationship between sport and politics. Two great threats hang over British sport - inadequate funding and the ever-increasing threat of government interference. The story must begin in the 19th century if one is to understand the influence British politics have had on sport during the last 30 years.
