The Abbey at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk was one of the greatest Benedictine houses in England. This book traces the history of the abbey to 1279, using a wealth of contemporary documentary evidence. Against this background, the regal coins struck at Bury under privileges granted to succeeding abbots from the reign of Edward the Confessor onwards is described. The result represents the most detailed account and analysis of the coins of an individual mint so far undertaken.
