This work contains, in alphabetical order, the names of all officers of the navy and marine corps, commissioned, warranted and appointed, including volunteer officers who have entered the service since the establishment of the navy department in 1798, showing the dates of their original entry, progressive rank, and the manner in which those no longer in the service severed their connection from it.
