Preserved in the Archives of the Moravian Church in America is a rich, largely unexplored treasure of manuscripts containing sacred and secular music performed in eighteenth-century Moravian settlements in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and North Carolina. This collection was the private library of manuscript scores compiled by the Moravian minister and musician, Johannes Herbst (1735-1812). It contains the most complete record of the sacred Moravian repertoire yet discovered.
