Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), also called host defense peptides (HDPs) are part of the innate immune response found among all classes of life. AMPs have a broad spectrum of targeted organisms ranging from viruses to parasites. In this book we have tried to summarize the major types of AMPs, their modes of action, and the common mechanisms of AMP resistance along with the principles for designing effective AMPs and the future potential of using AMPs in periodontology.

Les peptides antimicrobiens (AMPs), également appelés peptides de défense de l'hôte (HDPs) font partie de la réponse immunitaire innée que l'on retrouve dans toutes les classes de vie. Les AMPs ont un large spectre d'organismes ciblés allant des virus aux parasites. Dans ce livre, nous avons essayé de résumer les principaux types d'AMP, leurs modes d'action et les mécanismes communs de résistance aux AMP, ainsi que les principes de conception d'AMP efficaces et le potentiel futur de l'utilisation des AMP en parodontologie.

AMPs haben ein breites Spektrum von Zielorganismen, das von Viren bis zu Parasiten reicht. In diesem Buch haben wir versucht, die wichtigsten Arten von AMPs, ihre Wirkungsweise und die allgemeinen Mechanismen der AMP-Resistenz zusammenzufassen, sowie die Grundsätze für die Entwicklung wirksamer AMPs und das zukünftige Potenzial des Einsatzes von AMPs in der Parodontologie darzustellen.
