An Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) maintains the voltage stability in a real-time Power System. To improve the dynamic response of the AVR in the Power System, a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is used. For the Optimum working of the AVR, the PID controller needs to be finely tuned so as to obtain the optimized value of the gain parameters. This work discusses some optimization techniques for the tuning of the PID controller gain parameters. A comparison is being made so as to conclude which of the techniques is optimizing which parameters efficiently.
