Little Men, or Life at Plumfield with Jo's Boys is a novel by American author Louisa May Alcott, first published in 1871. The novel reprises characters from Little Women and is considered by some the second book of an unofficial Little Women trilogy, which is completed with Alcott's 1886 novel Jo's Boys, and How They Turned Out: A Sequel to "Little Men." Little Men tells the story of Jo Bhaer and the children at Plumfield Estate School.

The book mostly follows the lives of Plumfield boys who were introduced in Little Men, particularly Tommy, Demi, Nat, Dan, and Emil and Jos sons Rob and Teddy, although Franz, Nan, Daisy, Dolly, and Stuffy make frequent appearances as well. The book takes place ten years after Little Men.

Alcott wrote passionate, fiery novels and sensational stories under the nom de plume A. M. Barnard. Among these are Jean Muir, Paulines Passion and Punishment. Her protagonists for these tales are willful and relentless in their pursuit of their own aims, which often include revenge on those who have humiliated or thwarted them. A 14-year-old country girl, Polly Milton, visits her friend Fanny Shaw and her wealthy family in the city for the first time. Poor Polly is overwhelmed by the splendor and their urbanized, fashionable lifestyles, expensive clothes and other habits she has never been exposed to. Fannys friends reject her because of her different behavior and simple clothing, and Fan herself cant help considering her unusual sometimes. However, Pollys warmth, support and kindness eventually win the hearts of all, and her old-fashioned ways teach them a lesson.

Little Men follows the life of Jo Bhaer and the students who live and learn at Plumfield School that she runs with her husband, Professor Bhaer. The mischievous children, whom she loves and cares for as her own, learn valuable lessons as they grow to adulthood. Each student has his or her own struggles: Nat lies; Demi, is so naïve that he finds it hard to live in the real world; Emil has a bad temper; Dan is rebellious and rude; Tommy is careless; Annie is too rambunctious; and Daisy is too prim. They all learn to cope with their faults as they grow into young men and women.

Rose in Bloom is a sequel to Eight Cousins. The story begins when Rose comes back from a long trip to Europe. Everyone is well altered and as a joke, when she arrives home, she lines up her seven cousins to take a long look at them, just as they did to her when they first met. Rose Campbell, the heroine of the story, is sweet, kind, pretty, and ambitious. She is an heiress just come of age, and struggles with the many suitors she attracts by learning to judge love versus those who regard her only as a good match.

It is one of several nineteenth-century novels which uncovers the changes in womens work in the new industrial era, as well as the dilemmas, tensions, and the meaning of that work. The story depicts the struggles of a young woman trying to support herself. The main character, Christie Devon, works outside the home in a variety of different jobs, but the end of her story marks "the beginning of a new career as a voice and activist for other working women".
