This study interrogates gendered musicking in Esan with a focus on two acrobatic musical ensembles. The ethnographic research technique was relied on in eliciting data. This includes interviews, group discussions, informants, active participant observation, and library resources. The work reveals that Ijieleghe and Igbabonelimin share a common origin that has influenced the ensembles' dance steps, musical instruments and performance practice.
