In the summer of 2008, after 263 years of Christian service on the site, the congregation of St Lukes United Church in Bedford, England, was forced to acknowledge that it no longer had the resources necessary to continue. On Sunday, 5 October 2008, the doors of St Lukes were closed for the final time, bringing to an end a significant part of Bedfords distinguished place in the history of reasoned dissent.
