Mandibular growth is an important factor in facial growth and esthetics. Many believe the primary growth center of the mandible is located in the cartilage of the mandibular condyle and is actively proliferating after most other areas of growth in the human body have stopped. The direction of condylar growth is in a posterior and superior direction thereby resulting in anterior displacement of the mandible.
