The use of systemic fluorides for the prevention of oral diseases with a specific focus on dental caries is a conventional approach. Various formulations have been tried and newer alternatives are being discovered to manage the onslaught of caries in both pediatric and adult population, but fluorides are considered as a double edged sword which can cause detrimenetal affects on the individuals.
