The main function of the thyroid gland is the synthesis and secretion of the thyroid hormones (THs); (T4 &T3). These hormones have a wide impact on genes expression in all the body tissues. Subjecting the thyroid gland to environmental pollutions can act negatively on its functions. The book displayed the thyroid gland physiology, functions and diseases in addition to showing the effect of heavy metals that are dispersed in the marine aquatic ecosystems in harming the thyroid gland and exhibiting its dysfunction.
