Investigation was carried out in bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) to develop potential F1 hybrids with high yield and quality parameters. In a full diallel crossing involving ten parents, a total of ninety F1 crosses were obtained and evaluated with their parents in two seasons for various quantitative and qualitative characters. The analysis of variance for the traits studied indicated highly significant differences existed among the parents and hybrids. Per se performance of the parents revealed as the parent Preethi is the superior for yield per plant and CO-1 for quality parameters....

The first generation hybrids can be well exploited in view of the advantages such as uniformity, earliness and higher yield. Twenty five brinjal F1 hybrids collected from diverse sources viz., SAU s, ICAR and Private Institutes were assessed for yield and quality characters. Based on the mean performance and standard heterosis the hybrid COBH-1 was found to be promising one with respect to growth, earliness, marketable fruit yield and quality traits. Estimates of genetic coefficient of variation for fruit weight, number of fruits, marketable fruit yield and total phenols content indicated the...
