Owning a house means much more than only shelter for rural poor. Housing also provides security from natural and social threats such as natural disasters, wild animals, heavy rains, sun or thieves. Further it can improve status, self-expression, self-esteem and dignity. Housing is important not only from a social but also from an economical point of view and so rural housing affects various features of human development.
