Delay in cardiac repolarization causes ventricular tachyarrhythmias as well as Torsade de pointes (TdP). A feature of TdP is pronounced prolongation of the QT interval in the supraventricular beat preceding the arrhythmia. TdP can degenerate into ventricular fibrillation, leading to sudden death.
