The endemic birds of a country are the set of species exclusive to a nation. These are very important because they are not found anywhere else in the world and in Cuba, an island territory with very fragile ecosystems, the loss of one of these taxa would be irreparable. In Cuba there is not an updated and accessible guide for the common citizen, that is why the author has embarked on such an undertaking. The field guides are very valuable tools for the work in the field of citizen science specialized in ornithology. This is a modest contribution to the knowledge of this important segment of the...

In this study we evaluated the population of Rostrhamus sociabilis based on sampling of reservoirs in the province of Sancti Spíritus. It is an endemic species of Cuba. For this work, 34 periodic samples were taken between September and May (the months from June to August are not considered because they correspond to the reproductive period of the species, which could induce errors in the observation due to possible displacements in this stage). The sampling was carried out by means of linear transects from a calf taking as area a distance of 200 m wide `by 4 000 m long equivalent to 800 000...

The thickets of the plant known as marabú are monodominant plant formations made up of this invasive species introduced from Africa. Cubans have always identified it as a threat and since its introduction to the island have tried to eradicate it. Recent studies show that this plant is very important because of its socioeconomic importance and the environmental services it provides to ecosystems, including its role in the conservation of biodiversity in general and in particular in the survival of Cuban wild birds that find shelter, food and nesting sites in its fronds.

The aquatic birds of the Municipality of Cabaiguán, Province of Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, have been forgotten by researchers, which is the reason why this book deals with them. In spite of being a Mediterranean territory, the construction of reservoirs has facilitated the colonization of these aquatories by aquatic birds. The book shows how 43 species have been detected, which are shown, when the assemblages are formed, as different ornithocenoses. The aforementioned differences are due to the different dimensions of the three water bodies studied, as well as to the environmental differences...

One of the main tasks of Protected Areas is to carry out effective management in order to guarantee the protection and maintenance of biodiversity and the associated natural, historical and cultural resources, in order to guarantee the objective of conservation and sustainable use, conceived within the environmental policy. Therefore, it is necessary that all those involved in this process have sufficient knowledge of the characteristics of the area and its natural resources for its better management. In this sense, it is necessary to develop the 2021-2025 Management Plan for the Topes de...

Wildlife management is a topic that is little addressed by the Cuban teaching literature, there is only one text entitled Management of hunting fauna that does not correspond to the analytical program of the subject, so we have given ourselves the task of developing this basic textbook that we hope will meet the expectations of students in the fifth year of forestry engineering career in Cuba.
