The two British invasions of the Río de la Plata (1806/7) brought consequences of diverse kinds: political, economic and demographic. We can see that they formed a break, a kind of hinge between two historical moments. They contributed to the transition from a colonial society - regulated by Spain - to a politically independent one, but commercially dependent on Britain, and demographically, more cosmopolitan.
