Atlanta has been gripped by a wave of violence, resulting from the residents of New Orleans' Third Ward having been forced out by Hurricane Katrina and who are now struggling to gain a foothold on the Atlanta underworld.

Anaya attempts to overcome her environment, a socioeconomic glass ceiling, by any means necessary. That frame of mind lands her directly in the center of Atlanta's underworld which is superbly ran by a savvy older thug whose shady past has come back to haunt him.
