The town of Millville, Florida, was born out of the need for lumber to build houses and ships in the late 1800s, when settlers coming to St. Andrews Bay had no way to travel but by sailing vessels. Millville had a sawmill, a shipyard, and several stores. In the winter of 1885-1886, several families

Parker is a community shaded by live oaks on St. Andrews Bay in the Florida Panhandle, and its history dates back to the early 1800s. This pictorial treasure celebrates the community's heritage, people, places, and events in a variety of vintage photographs that bring to life the birth and growth of this once nameless, sleepy fishing village. From one of the first mentions of St. Andrews by the British in 1771 to the present day, people have long been pulled to the community as an ideal place to live. Around 1880, many years after Native American tribes greeted the first European settlers to St. Andrews, the St. Andrews Bay Railroad, Land and Mining Company summed up this idyllic town in an advertisement for mailorder real estate with this description: "The loveliest location in all Florida . . . the fairest land the sun ever blessed with its genial kiss.
