This is Serge Clement's first major retrospective, including forty years of work. The title DePaysE refers partly to the disorientation of one's living environment and in the mind. The universal cityscape surfaces as abstract multiple layers of asphalt, architecture, and streetlights. Like a journey into the heart of urban solitude and its periphery, Clement's work draws the viewer into an intimate relationship with the image. As the images accumulate, they create an imaginary density of timeless fragments.
